Walking the show floor at this year’s CES i have definitely notice a theme trending. Mostly the theme has been “D’Andre wants to buy everything”. That’s because this year isn’t exactly about innovation, and that’s not a bad thing. This year, it’s about refinement. Refinement of the laptops, refinement of displays, refinement in user interface.
Let’s take Ultrabooks. Not hulking monsters, and not the piddling amalgam of failure and despair that we once called netbooks. These new Ultrabooks are super slim, and very powerful. Pretty much what we all have wanted in a laptop for years! There were tons of them this year, beautiful ones; the new Samsung 9, the HP Spectre, even LG has a horse in this race. No DVD drive? Fuck that, who needs a DVD drive anyways?!
Tv’s.. Glorious Tv’s! 4k is the new black. 4k is quad HD, 4 times the standard high-def display. Yes, there isn’t a whole lot of 4k content.. but damn, if you can find it, it’s incredible. Of course these screens are exorbitantly pricey, so they won’t be flying off the shelves any time soon. OLED however is a very feasible purchase. The colors are ridiculous, the displays are stupid slim, and the bezels are pretty much non-existent.
And then there’s 3D… I hate 3D… But at least you don’t have to wear glasses anymore.
More to come!
